While the eyes of most political observers were on the Supreme Court, a forum was held yesterday by the Northern Virginia Technology Council that featured U.S. Senate Candidates Tim Kaine and George Allen.
In the forum, Kaine, the former Democratic National Committee chairman, called for the raising of taxes on the Internet, small businesses, and social security.
According to the Washington Examiner:
Kaine called for a balance approached to cuts and new revenue, starting by letting the Bush-era tax cuts expire for the those earning more than $500,000 a year.
?When I look in the mirror, I want to be thinner, I never want to be weaker,? Kaine said. ?An all-cuts approach makes us weaker.?
Kaine also felt the federal government could shore up Social Security coffers by raising the payroll tax cap above $110,000. He would also be open to a national sales tax of online purchases, calling the current system unfair to traditional brick-and-mortar retailers.
So, it seems Kaine has the same playbook he had in 2009 when he wanted to raise taxes more than any other governor in Virginia history.
Thankfully, his proposal failed then in the General Assembly 0-97.
When you take his latest tax plan, attach it to the more than $1 trillion Obama Health Care tax, which Kaine calls a ?great achievement?, and couple it with his plan as governor to raise taxes more than any other governor in Virginia history, you get a pretty clear idea where Kaine stands on taxes.
Update:
In an apparent attempt to deflect from Kaine?s gaffes yesterday, Virginia Democrats went after technology entrepreneur and GOP leader, Pete Snyder.
There are reports to BD that Snyder had enough of Kaine?s tax policy proposals at yesterday?s forum, so he raised his hand to ask George Allen what he thought of Tim Kaine?s ?news-making? embrace of at least three new federal tax increases.
Because of this, the libs and our friend and colleague, Lowell Feld at Blue Virginia, had a meltdown all over the Internet.
But instead of changing the subject from Tim Kaine?s horrible record on tax hikes and continued calls for more, Kaine and the Va Dems ACTUALLY doubled-down on the tax hike, whining some Republicans voted for it too!
How more tax hikes helps Kaine politically? Heaven knows. But Lowell and his band of merry tax-and-spend minions were the same folks piloting the Creigh Deeds sinking ship too.
Reached for comment, Snyder stated,
?As a conservative and an entrepreneur who built a thriving Virginia-based business off of the Internet, I firmly agree with George Allen ? get Washington and Tim Kaine?s hands and taxes off the Internet.
I love that Tim Kaine and the Virginia Democrats want to have a prolonged debate about all of Tim Kaine?s tax hikes and proposed new ones. Especially in the wake of yesterday?s bombshell judgment from the Supreme Court that Tim Kaine?s favorite policy, Obamacare, is really the largest tax increase in US history, Virginia taxpayers have a crystal clear choice in the race for U.S. Senate.
In these hard economic times if they want to give more of their money to a larger, more intrusive Obama government in Washington they should vote for Tim Kaine. If they want to turn this economy and our country around and get moving again, if they want to create more jobs and keep more of their hard earned dollars for their family, Virginia taxpayers will vote for George Allen in droves.
The Tim Kaine and the liberals don?t know it yet, but yesterday they awoke a sleeping giant ? the taxpayers of Virginia.?

The task of creating an outsourcing business plan can be pretty daunting, especially for a business owner who?s just getting his feet wet in integrating business process outsourcing (BPO) services into his business. There are a lot of variables involved that you have to mull over carefully before you make any decision.
If you?re seeking for ideas that can help you create a roadmap that will, to some degree, serve as a guide and govern the path of your business for the coming years, then you?re in for a little treat. Live2Sell gives you our compact, general guidelines to writing your own outsourcing business plan.
Keep It Simple
Your business plan doesn?t have to read like a scientific formula to get you from point A to point B. It doesn?t have to be complex or confusing. All you need is a simple document that defines your vision ? what you want to achieve and how to achieve them. It also has to be a solid and scalable plan.
Spend Time on Brainstorming
This is the crucial stage where half of the battle is won, so to speak. Before you put ink to paper, or start pounding on your computer, it?s good to sit down, consult with your team, and make some notes. Don?t limit yourself to your usual, standard business plan. Try thinking outside of the box.
When you?ve gathered everything you need, you?re ready to proceed to start writing the plan. This typically involves the following:
Review Your Business Plan
Take your time to review your outsourcing business plan before you proceed to executing them. Treat the plan as a learning tool to help you understand your business better and how to further improve it. Now comes the proverbial ?retain everything that?s useful and reject those are not.?
Keep in mind that your outsourcing business plan should only serve as a roadmap that will guide you to attaining your objectives, not a commandment written in stone. It should work to facilitate your decision-making and the dynamics of your entire business operation.
Select the Right Outsourcing Partner
This is the part where you look for the missing piece that will complete the puzzle ? your business outsourcing partner. Depending on your specific business needs, whether you?re seeking for the right call center outsourcing company, a telemarketing partner, or a sales lead generation vendor, be sure to choose the one that has the technology and competency to represent your business. Choose a partner that shares your business outlook and core values in attaining your business objectives.

Franchising is a proven way to accelerate success in starting a business, but the truth is that franchising is not for everyone. Green house cleaning franchise Better Life Maids suggests some insightful questions that a potential franchisee should ask themselves before choosing to franchise or open an independent business.
Better Life Maids President and Chief Experience Officer Matthew Ricketts poses the following questions to prospective franchisees to help them determine if franchising is right for them.
?1. Are you more interested in creating a brand of your own, or are you ready to build upon a proven business foundation??
If a prospective franchisee wants to build their own brand, that is a very specific mind set, and perhaps franchising is not the perfect fit. It may be that they will be more interested in the climb of building a business from scratch, testing and evaluating their own ideas. While this is a tougher road, it can be rewarding in other ways beyond just the financials. On the other hand, if they are ready to get started with a proven system, and want the guidance and support that franchising provides, then perhaps they should continue to explore business options that meet their personality type and skills.
?2. Are you financially prepared to start your own business??
Starting any business can be expensive. Franchising has the added cost of a franchise fee on the front end. You can think of this fee as a full service consulting and coaching service. All of the tools necessary to succeed in a business model are usually included in this fee. It varies from franchise to franchise, but the Better Life Maids franchise fee starts at $ 14,500 and includes an established brand and business identity, unlimited home office support and guidance, franchise level website and web marketing support, sales training and support, software licenses and support, technical tools, extensive initial and ongoing training, and a protected territory. If a prospective franchisee were to instead start a business from scratch they will still have many of these costs. They will need to establish a brand identity (think logo, color scheme, fonts, pictures) that represent their brand, build a website, find and buy the right software, and learn from their own mistakes. Either way they will need to plan on investing their time, and capital into the new business venture. One of the main reasons small businesses fail is that they are under capitalized. Franchising tries to address this by qualifying franchisees and making sure they are a good fit for business ownership.
?3. Do you prefer to be a Chief or an Indian??
Most people like to think of themselves as the chief, but the truth is that while leadership can be learned, it is not a perfect fit for everyone. A prospective franchisee needs to know if they want to manage every little detail of the business from the way things look and feel, to the way employees dress, developing their own corporate standards. If so, franchising will be a tough go, because most of these critical components are laid out for you. Franchising is best suited for people who are willing to follow a system. That does not mean that franchisees can?t help make the system better and suggest incremental, and even sweeping improvements, it just means that they need to be well suited to working within a structured frame work. The maverick entrepreneur is hardly the right fit for franchising, even if he can make a lot of money in the business, it won?t fill his other desires and needs for running and creating a business.
?4. Are you willing to work hard??
Just because the franchise has all the details laid out, does not mean that new franchisees will not need to work hard to be successful. They might not need to be up till 2 AM in the morning building their mission statement, logo, website, etc? However they will still need to pour a great deal of energy into running a successful franchise business. If they are used to, and like working a 9 to 5 schedule, punching a clock and going home, then they should seriously evaluate if franchising or being a business owner of any kind will be a good fit. A new business owner will have to make sacrifices to make their new business a success, probably in form of long hours during the start-up phase. Franchising will certainly take some uncertainty out of the process, but no matter what their is no substitute for hard work.
?5. Are you open to new ideas and new ways of doing things??
Probably a big reason the franchise system a prospective franchisee is choosing was and is successful is that it challenged the status-quo, and in doing so created a blue ocean of new opportunity. If a franchisee is set on doing things their own way, they will not completely buy in to the training and expertise that the franchise system provides. If a prospective franchisee has been doing something a long time and has their own ideas on how to do it best, than franchising might not be the best fit. If however this is a new industry, or they are willing to have an open mind and learn new things, franchising can provide a great opportunity.

MILFORD, Del. (AP) ? Authorities are investigating the discovery of a military explosive that prompted the evacuation of a Delaware seafood plant.
The device was discovered Friday morning at the Sea Watch International plant. Some employees were evaluated at a hospital as a precaution, but a Seawatch official said none was sickened
Seawatch chief financial officer Jerry Gordon also said it did not appear that the device contained mustard gas.
But an explosive ordnance disposal unit from Dover Air Force Base responded to the scene, and military officials said the round tested positive for a chemical agent, which Army technical experts will work to identify.
Several years ago, scores of unexploded shells found mixed in with crushed clamshells used to pave driveways and parking lots in
Delaware and Maryland?s Eastern Shore were traced to loads of clams dredged from the ocean floor and delivered to the Milford plant.

The Supreme Court upheld Obamacare and its individual insurance mandate today, although Fox News and CNN apparently expected a different outcome.
They were so surprised, they reported it was struck down!
Many in the media expected the Supreme Court to throw out the 2010 Affordable Care Act, but no one officially knew until the ruling at 10:15 Thursday.
Looks like CNN and Fox News jumped the gun. Fail.
The Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling established that the law, which mandates citizens have health insurance, is constitutional, since not doing so results in a tax.
Nonetheless, Fox's ticker initially reported that individual mandate had been declared “unconstitutional,” while CNN said the mandate had been “struck down.”
Both networks ultimately corrected their reports, but not before their utter idiocy was disseminated throughout the Twitterverse. Really, guys, awesome work.
It's unclear if they were merely confused by the court's extensive 193-page ruling or if they had that text ready to go ahead of time and forgot to change it.
In any case, as HitFix's Alan Sepinwall joked, this would make for a great episode of The Newsroom ... in two years, with the full benefit of hindsight.

Real estate can be restorative, or perhaps that?s what actor Ryan Phillippe was hoping when he bought a new home coined ?Rising Zen? after his divorce from actress Reese Witherspoon.
After two years at the peaceful estate, Phillippe was ready to move on and put the property on the Hollywood Hills real estate market for $7.45 million in late 2010. However it wasn?t the best timing for selling; with the steady down tick of home prices and strong recession hitting much of the U.S., Phillippe?s home didn?t sell, and the listing was removed in 2011.
Seven months later with a 6.1 percent price cut and new real estate agent, Phillippe is trying the market again. The home is listed for $6.995 million with Billy Rose of The Agency.
Built in 1998, the home was coined ?Rising Zen? due to its combination of Asian and modern architecture. While the 5-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom count of this home is impressive in itself, the amenities that follow are even better. The home features a state-of-the-art, two-story gym directly off the master suite, a media room, art studio, koi pond, a step-down bar with an aquarium backdrop, cook?s kitchen with breakfast area and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer fantastic city views.
The outdoor space is even more impressive, featuring amenities typical of an indoor-outdoor California lifestyle: outdoor kitchen, shower, sauna and canopied fire pit as well as an ?eco-friendly? pool with underwater speakers.
But best of all, the home has ?stoparazzi,? a term coined by listing agent Rose to describe properties hidden behind gates and tall hedges with extensive security systems that effectively stop the paparazzi from harassing celebrities in their private homes.
According to Zillow?s mortgage calculator, a monthly payment on Phillippe?s home would be $25,157, assuming a 20 percent down payment on a 30-year mortgage.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.?? The total number of homes destroyed by a two-week old wildfire in northern Colorado was raised to 248 on Sunday as residents of a subdivision near Fort Collins learned that 57 more homes in their neighborhood had been lost, authorities said.
Fire officials had previously said that 191 homes had burned, the most in state history. The High Park Fire is the second-largest wildfire and among the most expensive in Colorado's history. It has scorched more than 130 square miles and was just 45 percent contained on Sunday, The Denver Post reported.
With a total of eight fires burning, Colorado is having its worst wildfire season in a decade.
A fire near Colorado Springs erupted Saturday and grew out of control to more than 3 square miles early Sunday, prompting the evacuation of more than 11,000 residents and an unknown number of tourists. Authorities said Sunday that they were allowing about 5,000 of those residents to return.
Also on Saturday, a blaze destroyed structures near the mountain community of Estes Park, where many visitors stay while visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that 22 homes and 2 outbuildings had been burned.
"We're used to flooding and tornadoes, nothing like this," said Amanda Rice, who recently moved to the area from Rock Falls, Ill. Rice, her husband, four children and dog left a Manitou Springs hotel late Saturday.
Rice, scared when she saw flames, took her family to the evacuation center before she was told to go.
"It was just this God-awful orange glow. It was surreal. It honestly looked like hell was opening up," Rice said Sunday.
With Colorado midway through its worst wildfire season in a decade, travelers have seen some of their favorite sites closed to the public, obscured by smoke and haze. Some travelers were awoken with evacuation orders.
Plumes of gray and white smoke poured from the mountains Sunday, obscuring at times Pikes Peak, the most-summited high-elevation mountain in the nation and inspiration for the song "America The Beautiful." Winds were pushing smoke away from Colorado Springs, but residents and tourists watched nervously as haze wrapped around the peak.
Families planning whitewater rafting trips or visits to the stunning red-rock formations in Garden of the Gods park in Colorado Springs were instead spending their vacations passing out bottled water and setting up cots in evacuee centers.
They included Mark Stein of Morristown, N.J., whose family arrived after midnight Sunday at their Manitou Springs hotel for a week of whitewater rafting and sightseeing.
"We were sleeping for 15 minutes when they started knocking on the door ? a day from hell," Stein said of the day of travel. With his wife and two sons, Stein spent the first night of his vacation setting up cots for more than 200 evacuees who slept at the school.
"I think it's the best vacation ever. This is what the real world is about. There's a lot of people that need help," Stein said.
Also Sunday, a brushfire that began near Elbert, about 50 miles southwest of Denver, quickly spread to about 60 acres, forcing the evacuation of about 100 residents.
Half the nation's firefighting fleet is now battling fires in Colorado, said Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper. He said C-130 military transport planes from Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs would begin assisting on Monday.
"People recognize this is going to take a big push" to extinguish, Hickenlooper said Sunday from a Colorado Springs grocery store, where volunteers were passing out burritos, sandwiches and drinks to 350 firefighters working near Pikes Peak.
The wildfire near Rocky Mountain National Park destroyed vacation cabins and closed the most commonly used entrance to the park. Clouds of smoke blew toward the 102-year-old Stanley Hotel that inspired Stephen King to write "The Shining."
Elsewhere in the West, firefighters made progress against wildfires in Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
? In Utah, a 15-square-mile blaze around Fountain Green in Sanpete County was threatening more than 359 permanent structures and 213 mobile homes and travel trailers in four rural subdivisions, forcing about 1,000 people to flee. BLM says the human-caused fire erupted Saturday afternoon. Officials report progress on a 9-square-mile wildfire around Saratoga Springs, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City.
? In California, a wildfire about 60 miles north of Los Angeles triggered evacuations of campgrounds around an off-road recreation area on Saturday. Officials said the fire has blackened at least 1,000 acres in the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area, along the Interstate 5 corridor in Gorman.
? In New Mexico, a lightning-caused wildfire that destroyed 242 homes and businesses is 90 percent contained. The 69-square-mile fire near Ruidoso began June 4. Meanwhile, the largest wildfire in state history was 87 percent contained, having burned more than 464 square miles after two blazes merged on May 16.
? In Montana, two wildfires were burning in the southwest part of the state, including the fast-moving Antelope Fire, which started Saturday afternoon about 10 miles north of Whitehall and had grown to 462 acres on Sunday. About 100 firefighters were battling that blaze.
? In Arizona, the U.S. Forest Service said Sunday that containment against the Poco Fire, just outside of Young, is up to 50 percent and remains under 12,000 acres. Officials say many of the firefighting resources are being released to their home units or to other fire assignments.

Coming from a place of insecurity, which is the opposite of confidence, doesn't feel good and usually does not get you what you want.
It's very hard, if not impossible, to create the relationships of your dreams from a place of insecurity. Without a healthy dose of confidence, you have a really hard time standing up for yourself or asking for what you need in your relationships, and sometimes you get walked all over because of it. Not fun.
It's hard to build a really successful business or career from a place of insecurity. If you are feeling frustrated because your career feels stagnant or you are playing small and not taking steps to do the work you feel you are here to do in the world the way to change it is to have the confidence to do it. It's so painful to watch how people play small and keep themselves from having their dreams.
It's hard to ask for the money you deserve from a place of insecurity. Maybe you want a raise, or you want to raise your prices if you have your own business and you lack the confidence to ask for what you know you are worth.
It's definitely hard to get the sex and the sexual satisfaction you want and deserve from a place of insecurity. You might be feeling sexually frustrated, not having orgasms, not feeling like you get as much from sex as your partners, or feel stuck in not being able to ask for what you need sexually and so you aren't getting it. I find that many people who are powerful in other areas of their lives, (particularly women) just lack the ability to get their needs met in the bedroom and often feel really small and dissatisfied there.
Confidence is often talked about like it's a pill you can take, or like it's something you acquire in one big shot and you are good. But it's not. It's something you have to work at. It's a process to develop confidence.
This is why I began to look at people's confidence and scrutinize how their confidence operates . . . I know from all my years of work that there are patterns around people's ways of expressing and using their confidence and I've learned a few things about what makes people tick, what their needs and fears are, and what will help them get to the next level in their life, love, work and play.
I developed the 5 Confidence Types? out of my work with people. You may have a clear dominant type or you might be a combination of types. Most people do have a dominant type that is your home base right now--your default or the place you are most comfortable, or uncomfortably comfortable. You can learn skills to help you bring more of the energy of some of the other types into your repertoire if you want that, and you can also work on understanding how your type operates so you know what to work on enhancing and what to be careful of.
I want you to find out what your Confidence Type? is! This is not a one-size fits all operation. We don't all operate with the same brand of confidence. We have varying strengths and vulnerabilities and I want to help you define where you are now and how to move your confidence to the place where you want to go. I am so excited about helping people build their confidence. I know how important the element of confidence is in your being able to create the relationships, professional success, and sexual life you want.
The response to the Confidence Quiz has been really overwhelmingly positive in what it is doing for individuals and in the conversations they are able to have with other people in their lives. Do yourself a favor and learn more about how your own confidence operates so that you can take more control of your life and start living the way you really want to because you have the confidence to do it!

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) ? Republican Gov. Terry Branstad has made Iowa one of the most difficult states in the nation for felons to vote, with an executive order he issued last year already having disenfranchised thousands of people, a review by The Associated Press shows.
On the day he took office, Branstad signed an order reversing a six-year policy started under Democrat Tom Vilsack in which felons automatically regained their voting rights once they were discharged from state supervision. The move flew in the face of a nationwide trend to make voting easier for felons, making Iowa one of four states where felons must apply to the governor to have voting rights restored. Branstad's new process requires applicants to submit a credit report, a provision critics call inappropriate and unique among states.
Since then, 8,000 felons in Iowa have finished their prison sentences or been released from community supervision, but less than a dozen have successfully navigated the process of applying to get their citizenship rights back, according to public records obtained by the AP. Branstad's office has denied a handful of others because of incomplete paperwork or unpaid court costs.
"Wow ? that seems pretty low," said Rita Bettis, lobbyist for the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa, which was posting a how-to guide online Sunday to help felons through a process that has confused some seasoned elections officials. Bettis said felons struggling to re-enter society may be less interested in voting than the general population because they have other concerns, but making it easier for them to do so is good public policy.
Henry Straight, who wants to serve on the town council in the tiny western Iowa community of Arthur, is among those whose paperwork wasn't complete. Straight can't vote or hold office because as a teenager in Wisconsin in the 1980s, he was convicted of stealing a pop machine and fleeing while on bond.
Straight spent a year on the effort and hired a lawyer for $500 to help. Yet he was notified by the governor's office last month that he hadn't submitted a full credit report, only a summary, or documentation showing he had paid off decades-old court costs.
"They make the process just about impossible," said Straight, 40, a truck driver. "I hired a lawyer to navigate it for me and I still got rejected. Isn't that amazing?"
Iowa's process also includes a 31-question application that asks for information such as the address of the judge who handled the conviction. Felons also must supply a criminal history report, which takes weeks and costs $15. Then the review can take up to six months.
Critics say the process is too onerous and that allowing felons to vote helps them reintegrate into society. They say Iowa's process disenfranchises the poor, who don't have money to pay off debts, and blacks, who make up a disproportionate number of felons. They also point out that requiring a credit report is likely scaring off felons with financial problems.
"Iowa is in a dwindling minority of extremely restrictive states," said Marc Mauer, executive director of the Sentencing Project, a national group that advocates for policies to make it easier for felons to vote. For felons, Branstad is "making your right to vote contingent on your financial abilities."
The trend in the U.S. since 1996 has been to expand felon voting rights and make it easier to have them restored, according to a report from the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Kentucky, Florida and Virginia are the other states that require felons to apply to the governor, but they don't require a credit report. Thirty-eight states allow most felons to automatically regain their voting rights once they complete their sentences, according to the report. Maine and Vermont never take away voting rights. Others require felons to wait a certain amount of time before becoming eligible.
Branstad spokesman Tim Albrecht said Iowa's policy helps ensure felons pay restitution to victims and that he expected more to apply over time. He said the credit report helps officials verify those debts are paid. He noted the application is two pages long and available online with a "frequently asked questions" document.
Still, some felons have given up. Henry Straight's cousin, Richard Straight, 65, said he has struggled with addiction to drugs and crime. He said he would like to vote in the upcoming presidential election, but it's not worth the fight.
"I've only got a few years left of living. I might as well kick back and relax and live my life instead of fighting the system like that," he said.
Iowa had long been one of the most restrictive states for felons' voting rights. When Branstad served as governor from 1982 to 1998, he has said he restored thousands of felons' rights through a similar application process.
Branstad's successor, Vilsack, continued that policy until his 2005 executive order that automatically restored voting rights for felons once they left prison or parole. Republicans, including Branstad, criticized the move as politically motivated. Up to 100,000 felons had their rights restored under the policy, which was in effect until after Branstad won election to a fifth term in November 2010.
The state's new top elections official, Republican Secretary of State Matt Schultz, urged Branstad to reinstate the application process to "send a message to Iowa's voters that their voting privilege is sacred and will not be compromised."
In rescinding Vilsack's policy, Branstad said applying for citizenship rights "is an important and necessary aspect of an offender's process of reintegration."
Henry Straight said he would try to obtain the missing documentation and resubmit his application.
Ironically, he said he would like to be able to vote for Branstad, calling the governor a proven leader.
"But if you can't vote," he said, "you are nobody."

Star tells MTV News there 'might be some singing and dancing' on the show's 'shocking' 100th episode, airing Monday on ABC Family.
By Jocelyn Vena
It seems that on the milestone 100th episode of the "Secret Life of the American Teenager," everyone will have Amy and Ricky's wedding on the brain. Everyone is excited, that is, except the blushing bride, who is still dealing with the very adult decision to marry her baby daddy.
"Tonight's episode... the 100th episode? We kind of, I like to say, were channeling our inner 'Glee'," the show's star Shailene Woodley (who plays Amy) told MTV News on Monday (June 25). "There might be a musical number. There might be some singing and dancing by some of the characters on the television show."
"There's a lot of shockers," she continued. "And at the end of the episode, I think some fans are going to be confused as to a decision Amy and Ricky made. There's gonna be a shocking revelation about the wedding."
While the ongoing saga of Amy and Ricky might leave fans salivating for more from the young couple as the season chugs along, Woodley notes that the most surprising thing about the episode, to her at least, just might be that teased musical moment in the show. "I think that's big," she said. "We've never done anything like that on 'Secret Life'."
Woodley notes that when she signed on to the show all those years ago, she wasn't sure they would make it to 100 episodes. "Reflecting back on 100 episodes, I think that there's been so many exciting moments for me," she said. "A quarter of my life has been spent on 'Secret Life.' I'm 20 and I've been doing it for five years, so I think the best moments have been when all the castmembers get to work together and we get to collaborate and share experiences. We all grew up together.
"I think we were all surprised it has lasted this long," she continued about the show's successful run on the network. "None of us had ever done television before and I don't think any of us knew what to expect. And the fact that it has lasted this long continues to be a shocker. I think that the themes that we deal with, although they are exaggerated, I think the themes at their core are very relatable."

TAFTANAZ, Syria (AP) ? The main street of this once-bustling Syrian farm town now stands eerily quiet, its shops charred black from arson, its shoppers replaced by cats roaming the rubble of homes destroyed by tank fire.
At dawn on April 3, Syrian forces shelled the town in the first volley of what residents say was a massive assault after a string of large protests calling for the end of the regime of President Bashar Assad. Soldiers then stormed in, torching homes and businesses and gunning down residents in the streets. By the time they left on the third day, at least 62 people were dead.
Two months later, the destruction remains, but most residents are gone. Locals estimate that about two-thirds of the town's 15,000 people have left. Most don't expect them to return.
"There is nothing for people to come back to, and they worry that if they rebuild, the army will destroy it again," said resident Bassam Ghazzal, who lost more than 20 members of his extended family in the attack. "People don't want to become refugees twice."
The destruction in Taftanaz, seen by an Associated Press reporter, provides an on-the-ground example of the huge price paid by Syrian communities that have chosen to defy one of the Middle East's most brutal autocracies.
Since the start of the anti-Assad uprising in March 2011, the regime has responded to unrest with brute force, dispatching snipers, troops and tanks to quash dissent. Activists say more than 14,000 people have been killed since, many of them civilians.
In general, the violence has not stopped the uprising, emboldening protesters, galvanizing international condemnation and leading many in the opposition to take up arms.
Taftanaz tells a different story. It is a place where overwhelming force appears to have not only crushed a burgeoning protest movement but struck a blow against a community that may never recover.
In many ways, Taftanaz, a jumble of simple concrete homes surrounded by golden wheat fields some 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the northern city of Idlib, tells the story of Syria's uprising, writ small.
Residents had long complained of state neglect and corruption that left many living in poverty, Ghazzal said. So when protesters inspired by the successful uprisings against autocrats in Tunisia and Egypt took to the streets in Syria, they followed along, first demonstrating for change in April 2011.
Local security officers quickly ended the protest, but the town organized more, sparking further crackdowns and arrest campaigns by regime authorities, Ghazzal said.
The Syrian army raided the village three times in the next four months, Ghazzal said. During a June raid, Ghazzal's cousin was shot dead at a regime checkpoint while trying to flee, making him the first of the town's "martyrs."
Others followed. Some in the town took up arms, and an October clash between the army and local rebels killed five residents. Other residents buried them and held another protest the same day, Ghazzal said.
Then all was quiet until April 3, when tanks shelled the town from four sides before armored cars brought in dozens of soldiers who dragged civilians from their homes and gunned them down in the streets, witnesses said. The soldiers also looted, destroyed and torched hundreds of homes, bringing some down on their owners' heads.
Videos shot at the time show tanks posted near the town's entrance and huge columns of smoke rising throughout the area. Photos of the dead show bodies torn apart by shrapnel, charred by fire, crushed under rubble or with bullet holes in their chests, foreheads and temples.
Local activist Abdullah Ghazzal, a university student in English, says 62 people were killed during the attack, four of them burned beyond recognition. Two others have never been found.
Residents are unsure what sparked the assault. The town had only a small rebel presence, though fighters from the area had killed soldiers at nearby checkpoints or destroyed regime tanks, said local fighter Sahir Schaib. Rebels also blew up nine regime tanks as they left the town, mostly with homemade bombs planted along the roads.
He suspects the regime sought to stop the town from emerging as a protest center, especially since it is near a military base.
"There were lots of villages around that had just started protesting and they wanted to say, 'This is what we can do to you,'" Schaib said. "They committed the massacre to teach the whole region a lesson."
The Syrian government rarely comments on its military actions and blames the uprising on armed terrorists acting out a foreign conspiracy. It bars most reporters from working in the country, and the AP was able to visit Taftanaz only after entering from a neighboring country.
The price of Taftanaz's defiance is obvious around town. Homes have been reduced to rubble. Most shops along the town's main street are shuttered, their thick metal doors scarred by shrapnel and gunfire. Black soot lines the windows of others. Yet others lie collapsed in piles of bricks and mortar.
"They took what they took and burned what they burned," said Abu Eissa Ghazzal, 75, another member of the extended Ghazzal family. Standing near his torched grocery store on the ground floor of a three-story building, he despaired for the future.
"They didn't leave me a single nail," he said.
His younger brother had built the building after working for two decades in Saudi Arabia and lived with his family in the top two floors, Ghazzal said. Now all had been torched, and his brother and family had fled to a refugee camp in Turkey.
His older brother lived across the alley and refused to leave his home when the army came. When the attack was over, rescue teams found the 81-year-old man's body still in his home, burned to a crisp.
"Now there is nobody left," he said. "Who is going to rebuild all of this, now that all of those with children have left?"
The army has not returned since the April raid. Local activists still organize protests, though many fewer people attend, and rumors of impending military incursions often terrify residents.
Most of the dead rest in a long mass grave on the village's east side, their names scrawled in marker on cinder block headstones. Preceding most names is the honorific "hero martyr." One inscription for the unidentified bodies reads simply "four people."
"Most of them were my friends," said Abdullah Ghazzal, the English student, walking among the graves. He pointed out the grave of his 44-year-old brother, shot dead that day.
"They also burned down his house," he said.
Ben Hubbard spent two weeks inside Syria with a team of AP journalists. Taftanaz was among the hardest-hit areas the team visited, but many other cities and towns also have suffered heavy damage.

Expect a roof to deteriorate that much more rapidly if they doexperience a issue with "pooling" or "ponding" of rain water, An additional drawback to the flat roof structure structure is that if it does begin to leak as a result of poor drainage, damage can result to the underneath of the roof structure, which includes polished wood, decorated ceilings and even walls.
A flat roof covering should need significantly less material and labour so is really a lot cheaper to put in compared to a pitched roof structure but if it is not routinely looked after it could cost a lot more in repairs and maintenance in the end.
Snow will probably pile up rather than slide off on this particular variety of roof top and flat rooftops collapse more often as opposed to others beneath the weight of the snow. Throughout the uk since we are not usually subjected to heavy snow fall like various other countries this occurs significantly less usually.
A flat roof structure will frequently make an ideal space to setup a natural roof or even put up solar cells.
Flat rooftops minimize power cost during winter seasons but aren't ideal for summer time. As it absorbs more of the sun's heat compared to a pitched roof it makes your property even hotter.
Based upon exactly what products are utilized, flat roofs might have a shorter life expectancy compared to a pitched roof.
Steep roofs often create difficult wall surfaces that can not be put to use within the house. This issue is generally avoided by simply picking flat roofing. Adding an extra floor at some point tends to be less expensive and much easier with flat rooftops.
The materials now utilised by almost all respected flat roofing contractors have vastly improved and now are usually tough and very technical. Roof top lighting, fascias, cladding and rainwater merchandise tend to be routinely utilised in conjunction with insulation to maximize the overall performance and life-span of newly put in roofing. It is always best to get advice from a respectable roofing company if you plan to add a new roof to your home or wooden garden shed.
