Too Skinny? Gain Weight by Choosing Healthy Weight Gaining ...

It?s impossible to gain weight and build muscles without eating correctly. However, you must know that eating a lot is not the absolute solution to eliminate a skinny body type. A significant population of men and women do not gain weight by eating a lot. If you want to build your body to a healthy well-built condition, you will need proper nutrition ? and that includes making smart choices when it comes to weight gaining foods.

High-caloric foods are recommended if you want to gain weight and build muscles. Foods with high calorie contents can supply your body with essential energy that is needed to perform at the highest possible level. However, you need to choose foods that are also nutrient-rich. Avoid junk foods, as they are high in calories but they don?t supply healthy nutrients.

Here are some of the best weight gaining foods to help you build a good-looking body, both on the outside and the inside.

Healthy sources of carbohydrates
Breads, pasta and cereals are excellent choices of carbohydrates. For breads, you can have cheese or fruit slices on top of a slice of whole wheat bread. This can serve as a snack. Cereals can also be a high-calorie snack or breakfast. As for pasta dishes, you can consume this during snacks or for dinner.

Fresh and dried fruits
Always have a good supply of fresh and dried fruits handy, as these are rich in calories, vitamins and minerals. Experts recommend avocados because they contain a significant amount of calories and provide you with healthy fats and a high amount of energy. For dried fruits, raisins, cranberries, apricots, tropical fruits and berries are excellent choices.

Healthy sources of fats and oils
Fat compounds are not always bad. Using the correct types and amounts of fats can be good for your health. However, you must be careful when choosing fats or oils that you will be using in your diet. Use oils that contain monounsaturated fatty acids, omega-3 fatty acids and polyunsaturated fats. Some excellent choices include olive oil, flaxseed oil, canola oils, grape seed oils and walnut oils.

Nuts, healthy granola and fruit seeds
When making granolas, combine nutritious nuts and healthy seeds. Use your choice of high-caloric cereals together with any of the following: dried fruits, brazil nuts, cashews, walnuts, almonds, pecans, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, and other varieties of nuts and seeds.

Healthy drinks
Liquids that contain high-sugar compounds such as soft drinks and other energy drinks should be avoided. Choose fresh fruit juices, as ready-made fruit juices often contain a high amount of added sugar. They can also be full of flavorings and do not contain real fruit. You can also use vegetables as main ingredients for healthy drinks. Tomatoes and carrots are good examples.

Remember that the use of natural ingredients is recommended due to their high levels of vitamins and minerals. To build your body to a desirable size and weight requires you to make healthy choices when it comes to weight gaining foods.

Most films are experiences to be ignored or at best forgotten. "Blancanieves" is a little classic to be treasured.

It is a full-bodied silent film of the sort that might have been made by the greatest directors of the 1920s, if such details as the kinky sadomasochism of this film's evil stepmother could have been slipped past the censors.

Blancanieves, which won 10 Goyas (Spain's equivalent of the Oscars) and was a smash hit in its native Spain, has traces of a kinky undertone and an uncommon willingness to embrace the darkness inherent in this fairy tale.

As if bewitched, the legend of Snow White is transferred to Seville in the early twentieth century and transformed into high melodrama.

Sensuous, mischievous, hotblooded retelling of the old Teutonic fairy tale.

This gorgeous silent film is an unexpected gift from the gods of pure cinema.

Like The Artist, Blancanieves is delightfully novel, but it also feels trapped by its innovative gimmickry.

A boldly conceived fairy tale from Spain

Succeeds in all its cinematic experiments

The story might be familiar, but Berger's film is so beautifully shot and so wonderfully scored - and so distinctively Spanish - that it stands as its own film.

Blancanieves holds to the structure, but not strictures, of the source fairy tale.

A new, purely silent movie from Spain that never once speaks and doesn't need to speak. What's more, it seems to get the infinite possibilities of silence, and how much passion can come from it.

Berger's film doesn't show loyalty to any traditional version of Snow White. Berger's Blancanieves takes a darker approach, which seems appropriate.

A completely enchanting fairy tale about the vicissitudes of fate, in live action and glorious black and white.

The fun in the Spanish "Blancanieves" is the way it plays with our expectations.

May not have much depth to its characters or particular surprise, but its lovely depiction of family's ability to harm and mend has the flair of flamenco and the sorrow of opera.

No, "Blancanieves" isn't subtle, but it's an unforgettable time at the movies.

Inspired filmmaking steeped in the imagery of silent film history, a dark Iberian strain of Roman Catholicism and the magic of fairy tales.

... lusty and heartfelt, fiery flamenco and spirited country jig. Don't go expecting a Disney-fied fable. Berger seasons with S&M and the kind of macabre touches you'd expect in vintage Browning or Bunuel.

If not for some faintly disturbing imagery and a pleasingly feminist heroine, you could mistake this for a movie actually made in the 1920s (and even those two factors weren't utterly unknown then).

A loving tribute to European silent films of the 1920s; a reminder that cinema need not be constrained by words.

By the time the film arrives at its grand theatrical finale, you're almost prepared for Berger's last great twist. Almost.

this beautifully shot and imaginatively told fairy tale should be seen my many, but only a few will likely get to enjoy it. This is a shame for the audience it is intended for.

If government is NOT a failure, then how is the arrangement you describe even possible?

Capitalism, cronyism, nepotism, and letting people who worked in the industries who caused the meltdown in the first place to be setting monetary policy.

It was people from Wall Street who got appointed to run the show who set the awful policies which led to this in the first place.

You know, an epic failure of the financial system caused by the people who think they know how it runs, and who value profit over accountability.

Your free market is a joke, it always has, and always will be an oligarchy. Government fails because it panders to that, not because of an inherent failing in government. Republicans just think it's perfectly normal to let multinational corporations run the show.

There are some things that governments excel at, and some things that they do miserably.

There are some things that markets excel at, and some things that they do miserably.

There are some things that both of the above do miserably at and that entirely different approaches excel at.

The problem with so many people is that they expect one solution to be the silver bullet that works on everything. The proverbial "small child with a hammer" solution. Since the real world isn't so one-dimensional, most of their "s

Even shorter bouts of high-intensity exercise improve physical fitness in inactive men

May 29, 2013 ? It is a commonly held perception that getting in shape and staying there requires hard work and hours upon hours of training. Now, new research from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) shows the opposite -- just four minutes of vigorous activity three times per week is enough to make previously inactive men fitter and more healthy.

Regular training improves maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), which is a well-established measure of physical fitness. However, just how much exercise, and how intense that exercise should be to deliver the biggest benefit remains to be defined. Now, researchers from NTNU's KG Jebsen Centre of Exercise in Medicine/Cardiac Exercise Research Group have found that just three short high-intensity sessions (AIT) per week can make for substantial differences in the fitness of inactive men.

"Our data suggest that a single bout of AIT performed three times per week may be a time-efficient strategy to improve VO2max," says Arnt Erik Tj?nna, a postdoctoral fellow at the centre and lead author of the study. Tj?nna says one of the advantages of this approach is that it is easy for people to incorporate into their daily lives.

The researchers measured changes in VO2max and traditional cardiovascular risk factors in 24 inactive but otherwise healthy overweight men after they completed a 10-week training session that involved three weekly high-intensity interval sessions. One group of 13 followed a protocol that has previously shown to be effective, consisting of four intervals of 4 minutes of high intensity exercise at 90% of maximal heart rate (HRmax) interspersed with 3 minutes of active recovery at 70% HRmax (4-AIT), commonly known as 4x4 training.

The other group followed a protocol that consisted of one 4-minute interval at 90% HRmax (1-AIT). After training, VO2max increased by 10% in the group that had just one high-intensity session three times a week (1-AIT), while the group that followed the 4x4 regime increased its VO2max by 13%. Both groups saw decreases in their blood pressure, but the 1-AIT the group's blood pressures showed greater decreases than their 4-AIT counterparts for both systolic and diastolic readings.

Tj?nna says while the results look promising, the number of study participants was small, which limits the scientists' ability to extrapolate their findings. He also noted that people who are active probably won't benefit as much as the inactive participants did from the 1-AIT training regime.

"It has to be noted that the subjects were previously inactive, and the same effect on physical fitness cannot be expected in active individuals," he said. "Nevertheless, since we know that more and more people are inactive and overweight, the kind of improvement in physical fitness that we saw in this study may provide a real boost for inactive people who are struggling to find the motivation to exercise."

I Lost Weight: Dani Holmes-Kirk Rekindled A Love Of Fitness And Lost 62 Pounds

Got a success story of your own? Send it to us at success.stories@huffingtonpost.com and you could be featured on the site!

Name: Dani Holmes-Kirk
Age: 30
Height: 5'8"
Before Weight: 217 pounds

How I Gained It: I have struggled with my weight my whole life. I first tried Weight Watchers in college. I never officially joined, but instead copied my friend's points book and tried to track my calories myself. It worked for a while, until I got to my senior year. Put on 50 pounds or so. Damn beer, pizza and fries! I liked to go out with friends, and that led to a lot of bar food.

2006 marked pretty much the worst year in my life. I struggled with not one, but two eating disorders and some other personal issues and hit rock bottom. I lost a ton of weight, but did it in a horrendously unhealthy way. Looking back on those days I don't know how I survived.

I moved to Chicago in 2008 and put a lot of weight back on. Worked out like crazy, but never got the healthy eating part down.

Breaking Point: Finally, in November 2009, after looking at a picture of myself from Halloween, I made the decision to change. I was unhappy, uncomfortable in my own skin and unhealthy. I signed up for Weight Watchers on November 2, 2009.

How I Lost It: I like to say I "got rid" of the weight, since "lost" insinuates that I want to find it again -- which I don't!

I've learned that I can eat the foods I was eating before, but in moderation. I don't need to eat French fries or tater tots every day of the week. I focus on getting my fruits and veggies each day and finding healthier options for certain higher-fat foods. I always make sure to have a healthy snack in my pocketbook at all times.

In addition to feeling more comfortable with who I am, I am a much more active person. Through Weight Watchers, I rekindled a love of running. I have run six half-marathons and a full marathon in addition to a bunch of shorter distances. With running comes a lot of cross-training and moving outside of my comfort zone. I've tried (and fallen in love with) Spinning and have tried hip hop dance class, Zumba, BodyPump and even CrossFit. These are all things I would never have thought possible before Weight Watchers. I am also 100 percent open about sharing my weight loss and maintenance and my fitness journey on my blog, Weight Off My Shoulders.

One of my first weight loss goals was to be able to fit into Lululemon clothes. Once that happened, I was hooked. I am now -- proudly -- no longer the biggest size in the store. A couple of months ago, I didn't want to buy a pair of pants that I thought made my thighs looked fat. My friends reminded me those thighs have carried me through many races and a sub-4-hour marathon. Pride flowed through my body after that moment, and now I think of what I have accomplished every time I slip them on.

In January 2012, I made a drastic life change. My wife and I made the decision to up and move from Chicago to Boston (where I am from). I quit my job in sports PR and began a new path -- working for Weight Watchers. I am so happy I made the change. I am having a blast paying it forward. The dream got even better when I officially became a Weight Watchers Leader on April 5, 2012.

Zombie plants? Frozen plants thaw and wake up from 400-year nap

Plants frozen under a Greenland glacier hundreds of years ago are growing again, after rapidly melting glaciers expose them to sunlight and air.

By Liz Fuller-Wright,?Correspondent / May 29, 2013

This moss froze about 500 years ago, when it was covered by an advancing glacier. Now that the glaciers are in retreat, the exposed 'zombie' moss is growing again, in a petri dish in the lab of University of Alberta scientist Catherine La Farge.

But this is real, and happening with mosses in Greenland. Once buried under thousands of tons of glacial ice, these mosses are green and growing again.

And not just one or two feisty stragglers: Dr. Catherine La Farge and colleagues from the University of Alberta found between 60 and 144 different species of moss that are spontaneously regrowing after centuries on ice.

Glaciers on Ellesmere Island, off the coast of Greenland, are rapidly retreating, like most glaciers around the world. As they pull back, they are uncovering whole ecosystems of mosses that are starting to wake up and blink in the sunlight.

Scientists saw the newly exposed mosses just a few feet from the edge of Teardrop Glacier on Ellesmere, on land that had been covered by the glacier only a year before. Most of the mosses were black, says La Farge, but they were structurally intact, and some looked suspiciously green.

"As I looked more closely I thought, 'Oh my gosh, what's this? Either this has somehow managed to retain a vestige of its original color, or it's just started to grow again after centuries under the ice,'" she told National Geographic. "The thought of that just blew my mind."

Arctic explorers have noticed these glacial-edge mosses before, but always assumed that they were seeing modern mosses that had blown onto the "dead mats," like squatters moving into a long-abandoned building. ?But when Dr. La Farge's team put the moss under a microscope, they saw that the green branches were growing from 500-year-old stems.

They put blackened moss with potting soil under a grow lamp and held their breath. Six weeks later, they had proof: these ancient mosses, frozen since the Middle Ages, were growing again.

These plants froze between 404 and 615 years ago, according to radiocarbon dating, or between 1398 and 1609, during the early part of the "Little Ice Age" that chilled much of Europe. The last time they saw the sun, English speakers were using words like "verily" and "forsooth."

How is this possible?

Moss has a big advantage helping its resuscitation along: its cells can replicate themselves and grow into anything the plant needs. Mosses are essentially built of stem cells, cloning themselves endlessly, without stamens, pistils, or any of the other trappings of sexual reproduction. But while their cloning abilities are well known, no one expected that they'd be able to grow again ? spontaneously, without help ? after spending centuries trapped under thousands of feet of ice.

The successful resurrection of these newly exposed plants raises interesting questions about the role of mosses in periglacial ecosystems, where glaciers advance and retreat over and over again.

Though easily overlooked because of its unimposing stature, moss is vital to permafrost ecosystems ? without it, animals from mice and rabbits to deer and caribou could starve in the frozen north, where few plants thrive.

At the poles and in mountains around the world, most glaciers are retreating faster than ever in recorded history. Will the newly exposed glacial terrain remain frozen and barren, or will these "zombie" mosses rebuild thriving ecosystems in some of the harshest terrain on the planet?

Glaciers beating a hasty retreat

Most glaciers have been shrinking for decades, but what used to be a slow saunter ? moseying back a few feet each year ? is now a sprint. Since 2007, arctic glaciers have retreated about 13 feet (4.1 m) each year, almost three times as fast as the retreat speed of the 1960s and 1970s. That might not sound like much, given the thousands of square miles these glaciers cover, but the rapid acceleration of the melt has caught the attention of scientists and policymakers.

The good news is that we're finding all sorts of fascinating things under the ice, from zombie mosses to still-bleeding mammoths.

The bad news is that when they these landlocked glaciers melt into the ocean, it raises ocean levels. Since about 10 percent of the world's population lives within a few feet of sea level, that's a lot of people contemplating a water-logged lifestyle.

Every Hole's a Piece of Art In This Sculpture Garden Mini Golf Course

In their own way, a lot of miniature golf courses?with their twisting layouts, devious obstacles, and over-the-top designs?can be considered art. Even if their sole purpose is to encourage tourists to pay to knock a ball around. But this spring the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden decided to join forces to take the idea of minigolf as art even further by hiring artists, architects, engineers, and students to design the museum's annual artist-made minigolf course, Walker on the Green.

SPYRUS Delivers "Reset" Write-Protected Windows To Go USB 3.0 PC on a Stick for Secure Teleworking and Remote Access for Cloud Computing

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - May 28, 2013) - SPYRUS today announced the new security "Reset" write-protection application for its Portable Workplace? (PW) and Secure Portable Workplace? (SPW) Windows To Go-certified drives. SPYRUS bootable USB Windows To Go drives are secure trusted endpoints that augment desktop and secure Internet and cloud computing applications.

Reset write protection is a read-only security feature that protects the booted Windows To Go operating environment by blocking users from permanently storing data on a Windows To Go drive. When Reset write protection is enabled, no changes to a partition or any files on it persist when the SPYRUS device is shut down. This reset feature expands the capabilities of PW and SPW and makes them excellent solutions for teleworkers who need secure remote access to enterprise networks or virtual desktop infrastructures (VDIs). It also enables federal organizations to support the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010 securely.

Enterprise administrators understand the need to protect against cross-contamination of stored data through the transfer of malware from host PCs as employees work remotely from home or on travel. For traveling workers, there is also the potential that data on their laptops could be compromised by increasingly sophisticated hacking attempts. In support of demanding applications requiring the highest security, the extensive built-in security self-checks of the SPW complement Reset write protection by blocking persistent data writes to applications stored on the device itself or to corporate networks that it accesses.

Reset write protection running on the Portable Workplace and Secure Portable Workplace is another feature that differentiates SPYRUS Windows To Go drives. Additional discriminators are the support service SPYRUS provides for booting from Macintosh computers and XTS-AES 256 hardware encryption that protects the operating system, applications and data on Secure Portable Workplace drives. In particular, the SPYRUS patented security methods enforce on-the-fly integrity validation to enable fast, secure boot-up and enhanced user experience without performance penalties or operating system and boot loader vulnerabilities incurred by other bootable products.

With SPYRUS Reset write protection, enterprise customers can realize hardware refresh savings and increased security, eliminating the need for provisioning computers for teleworkers, because employees can use personally owned computers. Enterprise employees and contractors can safely leave their laptops in hotel rooms, or even lose them, since a laptop drive contains no secure data or applications and has no means by itself to access the corporate network.?

"The Reset feature is just one of many innovative security functions that SPYRUS provides with its Windows To Go products. SPYRUS is a security company providing secure devices to protect the data, operating systems and applications, whether lost, stolen or maliciously hacked," said Tom Dickens, COO of SPYRUS. "All security for the SPYRUS drives is designed, developed, and manufactured in the U.S.A., mitigating risks from untrusted parts entering the supply chain, a problem of increasing concern to enterprises and governments worldwide."

Visit SPYRUS in booth 2315 at Tech Ed North America June 3-6 in New Orleans to learn about the full range of SPYRUS trusted mobility solutions for BYOD.

From Dallas to the west, we are under a slight risk for severe weather.? Our main concern would be gusty winds to 60 mph and large hail up to 1?.? The greater threat will be north and west of DFW.

Severe Risk Day 2

Many of my models are showing all the storms staying NW of DFW and keeping us dry.? There are a few others though that do bring storms into the area in the evening on Wednesday and Wednesday night.

This is how the day could play out if my models showing more active weather closer to us verifies.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ? Storms develop along the dry line to our west.? This is the area of greatest concern for high winds, large hail and tornadoes.

Wed After

WEDNESDAY?EVENING-?If there are storms far enough south they would be approaching the DFW area late in the evening on Wednesday.
