Heffernan Foundation, the charitable giving program for Heffernan Insurance Brokers, raised more than $850,000 at a benefit event in May that celebrated the firm's 25thanniversary. Funds will help Heffernan Foundation carry out its mission, which is to support nonprofits that provide direct support and services to local communities in the areas of shelter, food, education and the preservation of the environment.

Ferring Pharmaceuticals Inc. ?has donated $1 million to the?Alliance for Fertility Preservation?(the Alliance), a newly formed 501c3 charitable organization established by and comprised of experts representing a broad range of disciplines. The Alliance helps to promote the education of patients diagnosed with cancer to enable them to make the best informed decisions regarding fertility preservation options prior to commencement of treatment and to better understand potential opportunities to help manage infertility after treatment.

AmeriCares?has presented its annual Power of Partnership Award to Merck & Co. Inc. in recognition of the company's outstanding commitment to helping disaster survivors and improving health in the developing world. Merck is one of AmeriCares most committed donors, providing both products and financial support for the global health and disaster relief organization's aid programs.

The?Institute for Music and Neurologic Function?(IMNF) has received a grant from the ASCAP Foundation to support the organization's expanding Aphasia treatment program. The 20th annual?Vera Bradley Foundation?for Breast Cancer Classic Golf & Tennis Tournament?raised $1,047,235. The four-day event, held in Fort Wayne, Ind., is the largest women's amateur golf and tennis charity event in the nation. More than 600 participants and 300 volunteers came together to?have fun and raise funds for the cause; women from 17 states participated. The funds support breast cancer research at the?Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center?in Indianapolis, a nationally ranked cancer center. The lifetime total raised by the Classic event now stands at nearly $11 million.

The Nature Conservancy?and Macy's were awarded a Silver Halo Award at the?2013 Cause Marketing Halo Awards?in the category for Best Message-Focused Campaign for the "Give, Get, and Save the Rainforest" program. The award was presented at the 11th Anniversary Cause Marketing Forum Conference held in Chicago.

The?Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national nonprofit working to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity, has named Dr. Howell Wechsler to serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He succeeds Dr. Ginny Ehrlich, who has been named the CEO of the Clinton Foundation's Health Matters Initiative. The Alliance serves as a catalyst for children's health-working with schools, companies, community organizations, healthcare professionals and families to transform the conditions and systems that lead to healthier kids.

Nancy A. Goldenberg, Senior Vice President for Programs and Planning at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society in Philadelphia, was elected to the Board of Directors of the national urban park advocacy organization?City Parks Alliance.

Lorry I. Lokey, the founder of?Business Wire?and a passionate benefactor of the health sciences, will give $2.5 million to complete Sequoia Hospital's $20 million?New Sequoia Hospital Campaign. This "capstone" gift comes in the form of a challenge investment to support advances in medical technology within Sequoia's new hospital campus. The Bob and Renee Parsons Foundation, known for transformational giving throughout the Phoenix area, announced Laura Mitchell, former Chief Financial and Operations Officer for Make-A-Wish Arizona, will assume the role of Executive Director.

The?National Audubon Society?celebrated the legacy of female leadership in conservation by presenting two lifelong conservation champions with Audubon's Rachel Carson Award. This year's honorees include Marian S. Heiskell, whose philanthropic activities focused on making the neighborhoods of New York City green, and the late Lady Bird Johnson. Her special Memorial Tribute Award was accepted by her daughter, Lynda Johnson Robb.

Additionally, Susan Bell, a national leader in climate change policy solutions, has been named to the board of directors of the?National Audubon Society. Bell is senior advisor to Stanford University's?Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment.

The?Colon Cancer Coalition?is accepting applications for caregiver grants through the Tony Snow & Betty Jo Caregiver Network. This branch of the Colon Cancer Coalition is named for former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, his mother Betty Jo Snow, and spearheaded by his sister, Jenny Snow Ashbrook. The mini-grants are targeted to provide financial support to the primary caregivers and family currently caring for, or who have recently lost, someone to colorectal cancer. The?Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs?(ANDE) and Village Capital have released a new report,??Bridging the "Pioneer Gap": The Role of Accelerators in Launching High-Impact Enterprises', a quantitative analysis of 52 social impact-focused incubators and accelerators, operating around the world.

The?GE Foundation?is partnering with the Ministries of Health in Cambodia, Indonesia and Myanmar to implement programs that will improve access to healthcare throughout these countries. The projects are defined through collaboration with Ministries of Health based on pressing needs.? Projects include improving infrastructure with technology and training at public hospitals and clinics, increasing the pipeline of primary care physicians in the public sector, and improving maternal and newborn care to reduce infection and mortality rates.
